The 5th Port Dollymount Sea Scouts have been located in their Den on Bull Island in Dublin Bay since 1912. The Den has expanded with multiple extensions since then. Building standards are constantly evolving and this building is being upgraded to conform to best practice. CWA have worked in a voluntary capacity on this project over the last 5 years, as scout funding became available. Works have included improving fire safety, lighting, ventilation and external improvements.

The oldest boat shed was originally the boat launch for a customs garrison. Although the Scout Den and adjacent structures are not protected structures, the old staff houses and boat shed have an interesting social and historical context worth preserving. The most recent upgrades have been to the historic fabric of the original stone launch building. It has been maintained with new lime pointing which is superior to modern cementitious materials in this harsh environment.
